I love this neighborhood.

In 1991, as a junior in high school, I got a job at Marvelous Market-in the spot that is now Little Red Fox-when it first opened. There were lines around the block. I felt so lucky to be able to work on that bustling block with not only the best bread in town, but also the best bookshop in town, Politics & Prose. More importantly, I discovered that our neighborhood also had the best people in town. When my husband and I moved back to DC in 2007, I knew I wanted to be as close to that wonderful block as I could be.

Our neighborhood has only improved since my high school days, and so has our city. Washington has shaped who I am today: mother of three children, co-owner of two small businesses, and proud Democrat. When my children were young, I was an active volunteer at Murch, serving as Vice President of the HSA and co-chair of the Murch Auction. I would like to continue to serve this neighborhood and this city by working as your ANC3F06 Commissioner. As your Commissioner, I will focus on three key areas: traffic safety, small business advocacy, and community support.

Like all of you, I worry about cars speeding through ANC3F06 where our sidewalks sometimes inexplicably begin or end mid-block. But it’s not just adding sidewalks, it’s also calming the traffic and prioritizing students getting to and from school safely. I am a fierce advocate for pedestrian safety and robust public transportation. I have worked with Mary Cheh, ANC members, and officers from the 2nd District to address neighborhood traffic concerns during the morning and evening rush. I will continue this important work as your ANC3F06 Commissioner.

Our neighborhood thrives because of a long tradition of vibrant small businesses and, as a small-business owner myself, I understand the challenges of running a business. During the pandemic, I co-founded an organization that purchased over 1,500 meals from locally owned restaurants to feed clinicians and support workers at our local hospitals. We were able to help our local businesses while supporting heroes of the pandemic. As your Commissioner, I look forward to advocating for small businesses, encouraging them to thrive in our neighborhood and balancing their needs with the needs of our residents.

Finally, neighborhoods are communities that need active support—from infrastructure to community building to representation with the government agencies. I worked with DDOT to re-pave and install five additional catch basins and storm drains to fix flooding on Ellicott, Fessenden, and 32nd Streets. I’ve worked with neighbors across 3F06 to make our neighborhood friendlier, more inclusive, and more welcoming. Community support is key part of representation and I will listen to your concerns and represented you faithfully and thoughtfully.

I’m a proud life-long Washingtonian, and as your Commissioner, I pledge to be an advocate for all of 3F06. I hope to earn your vote.
